How We Met

After working at SmithBucklin together for over a year (albeit on different floors) and exchanging work related emails, we finally met at the company Christmas party. At the after party Turner bought Emily a vodka lemonade (her favorite at the time), and they chatted for a good portion of the night. That night Turner went home and told his roommates at the time, that Emily was 'the one'.

Our First Date

After texting back and forth for the next couple of days, Emily and Turner went on their first date that weekend, beginning with dinner at an Italian restaurant Turner believed was a mom-and-pop place in the neighborhood. Emily later informed him she had been to this restaurant before, and that it was more so a Chicago chain. Chain or mom-and-pop, it didn't matter - they hit it off and had a great time getting to know each other in between bites of pasta.

After dinner the date continued to Guthrie's Tavern, a local watering hole and dive bar with bookcases full of board games. They spent the next couple of hours battling it out in rounds of Yahteez!, Scrabble, and other board games. Turner of course let her win just enough times, though Emily disputes that fact and if it was even necessary (OJ is a word in Scrabble, right?). The date lasted about 6 hours total and Emily says that's when she knew Turner was the one.

She Says Yes

After a couple of years of dating, and in the midst of the mess of 2020, Emily and Turner took a quick trip to Cocoa Beach, FL for a weekend away. Turner proposed on the beach the morning after they arrived - he had planned with a family friend to help set up a blanket, champagne glasses, chilled champagne and flowers on the beach.

FAQ

Are there any COVID-19 related restrictions/requirements at your wedding?

As of February 28th, the City of Chicago has lifted the vaccine and mask requirements for public spaces, so masks will no longer be required to attend our wedding. So that we can ensure the safety of our guests, vendors, and venue employees, we're kindly requesting that everyone attending be fully vaccinated. We truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Do you have a hotel block for guests? What is the deadline to book a hotel room?

Yes, we have secured room blocks at a discounted rate at the JW Marriott, W Chicago, & Hyatt Regency. If you'd like to book a room in one of these blocks please do so by May 20th. See the Hotel & Travel section for hotel details and booking links.

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

Our suggested dress code is "cocktail attire". Semi-formal wear like a cocktail dress or formal jumpsuit for ladies, a suit or blazer with or without a tie for gentlemen. Our wedding will have a tropical/summer vibe, so feel free to wear bright colors or floral prints. Both the ceremony and reception will be indoors with air conditioning. Chicago's average high temperature in June is 81° with an average low of 63°.

What time should I arrive to the ceremony?

Please plan to arrive at the venue around 4:00-4:15PM to get settled and find a seat. The ceremony will begin promptly at 4:30 PM.

How do I get to the wedding venue? Will transportation be provided?

We will be providing transportation for guests from the JW Marriott to the venue before the ceremony, and transportation from the venue back to the JW Marriott after the reception. The W is located directly across the street from the JW Marriott, so guests staying there can walk over to hop on the coach bus. Stay tuned for additional details on specific timing. You can also drive, or take an Uber/Lyft/cab to the venue if you prefer.

Is there parking available at the wedding venue?

Yes, there is a parking lot on Leavitt St as well as free street parking around our venue on Leavitt St, Carroll Avenue, and Bell Avenue.

How can I RSVP? When is the RSVP deadline?

You can RSVP on our website above in the RSVP section once invitations have gone out. We ask that you kindly RSVP by May 14th.

What's the best way to contact you if I have additional questions?

If you have additional questions leading up to our big day feel free to reach out to one of us via text or shoot us an email.
